Almonds- The Perfect Snack

Almonds- The Perfect Snack

Almonds, one of mother nature’s natural health foods, are often overlooked and thought of as nothing more than a tasty quick snack that you eat when at a party or on the go. How many times do we make a conscious effort to actually include them into our daily diet? Through research we have found that in its natural state it’s a very important food and should be included on a regular basis.

The Nutritional Facts

According to the Mayo clinic, eating a small handful of nuts a day, such as almonds, pecans, peanuts, hazelnuts, pistachio nuts and walnuts, and some pine nuts may actually reduce your heart disease risk.

They are a great source of copper, magnesium, phosphorus, and riboflavin, which is rich in vitamin B2. Magnesium works as a calcium blocker and when there are sufficient levels in our system, our arteries and veins respond by relaxing and lowering their resistance. This results in an improvement with our body’s blood flow.

The Phosphorus that they contain will help build stronger teeth and bones.  Riboflavin and L-carnitine are known to increase the brains activity level, aiding in the prevention of Alzheimers.

These simple nuts have two very important fatty acids, both linoleic and linolenic acids. These fatty acids assist in the reduction of inflammation throughout the human body.

They are the only nut and one of the few proteins that are alkaline forming.  When your body has an ample supply of these chemicals, it helps reduce osteoporosis and build the immune system.

They also promote gastrointestinal health and combat diabetes. The high dietary fiber content gives them prebiotic properties, which contributes to health in the gastrointestinal tract.

Recommended Daily Requirement

A small hand full, or about 1/4 cup, contains around 18 grams of fat, which are heart-healthy grams mostly made up of monounsaturated fats. Another way to measure a good serving amount is to eat 20 to 25, which will weigh in at about an ounce. This small hand full will make the perfect snack.
