How to Make Perfect Sweet Potato Fries

4 Medium-sized Yams

3 Tbsp of Cooking Oil, Olive Oil is the healthier option

1 Tsp Kosher Salt

¾ Tsp of Sea Salt

½ Tsp Ground Black Pepper

Garlic Powder and/or Paprika for flavoring, to desired flavor

Wash your yams well. Next cut your yams into ½ inch sticks, or ¼ for faster cooking. The smaller they are cut, the quicker they will be done. Also you can leave the potato skins on or off, depending on your preference.

Preheat your oven to 450 degrees. In a bowl mix your cut potatoes in with the oil, pepper, and kosher salt. Prepare two baking sheets covered with foil, and place in the oven until they are hot. Once heated remove from the oven and spread your sweet potatoes out on the sheets so they are not double layered. Ensure they are evenly spread out in a single layer with space in between.

Bake for approximately 15-25 minutes turning once while baking, or until slightly browned with tender centers. This time will vary depending on how thick the potato slices were cut. Sprinkle an additional amount of sea salt if you desire and serve. Serves 4.

Perfect Sweet Potato Fries

Deep Fried:

Extra Ingredients:

Appox 6 cups of oil for frying, peanut oil works best

1 Cup of cornstarch

1/8 Tsp of sugar

3/4 Cup of cold club soda

Heat your oil in a deep fryer or in a Dutch oven to 375 degrees. Mix your salt, paprika, sugar, garlic powder and salt in a small mixing bowl and set aside. Next mix together your club soda and cornstarch in a medium bowl. In small amounts dip your cut yams into this batter and allow to drain. Once all your potatoes have been dipped and drained fry about half of your potatoes until they are crispy and brown (about 6-8 min.) Repeat for the other half of potatoes. Spread your cooked fries over two baking sheets lined with paper towels in single layers and sprinkle your dry ingredients over the fries for flavor. Serves 4.
