The Many Wonders of Fish Oil

The Many Wonders of Fish Oil

There are many wonders of fish oil but from the beginning it has long been one of the main ingredients used in the cuisines of the Far East. It is a definite must in many Chinese and Japanese dishes and through trade and political connections it was soon adopted by many of the neighbors of these two Asian superpowers. Still, what most people don't know is that apart from being one of the tastes of the east, fish oil is also a great and versatile addition to your dietary arsenal.

The Wonders of Fish Oil

1. Prolongs life expectancy

As most of you already know, Japan is one of the largest fishing industries in the world and the fish oil can be found in a lot of the dishes on Japanese islands. However what you don't know is that there is a hidden connection between fish oil and the fact that the island of Okinawa, with a bit over 1.3 million inhabitants has 740 proven centenarians. Still, this is only a tip of an iceberg of all the advantages that the consumption of this marvelous natural oil brings.

2. Fighting diseases

In some cases, there has even been a report of fish oil helping fight the prostate cancer. The study was conducted by the researchers at the UCLA's Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center. After a brief survey they noticed that the growth of cancer cells was slowed down in patients who were put on the diet which included the oil. The patients who remained on the western diet showed no results of cancer growth slowing down.

3. Nutritiously rich

Another great thing about the fish oil is a fact that it is filled with nutrients and vitamins that are vital for your health. It is rich in vitamins A and D as well as DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) which are just perfect for those concerned with leading a healthy lifestyle, and more importantly, they are significant in the fight against osteoporosis. If you are not a fan of the way that the oil tastes and still want to reap all the benefits that it brings at the table, you can always simply take osteoporosis supplements enriched with omega 3.

4. Protection from Alzheimer

Another important thing about the aforementioned Okinawa case lies in the fact that most of these centenarians are actually in astoundingly good mental condition. Alzheimer's disease and some other mental illnesses of old age somehow do not affect them in that measure. A study published in Neurology in 2007 claims that regular consumption of Omega-3 usually found in fish oil and vegetables can help successfully fight Alzheimer.

5. Great for pregnancy

Because of many nurturing properties that fish oil can have on your mental status, one of its nicknames is the "brain food." However, these nutrients are not only recommended for your own health and consumption but are also a great aid in pregnancy. Yet another survey, this time conducted by the Universite Laval found that the consumption of this oil in the last stages of pregnancy can significantly improve cognitive and motor development of the infant.

As you can see, there are many reasons why everyday use of fish oil is a great boost for your health. On the other hand, reasons against it are mainly based on your personal taste. Luckily for you, even if you strongly dislike the taste of it you can still enjoy the many wonders of fish oil and the benefits that it brings with the proper supplementation. The consumption of this incredible oil can therefore enable you to achieve that ancient Roman ideal, a sound mind in a sound body.
